Westborough – Barbara E. Adams, 100, of Westborough, entered into rest on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at her home at Whitney Suites, The Willows. She was the wife of the late Bertis H. Adams and was adored by her large circle of family and friends.
Born in Winthrop, Barbara was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Hoffman) Goldstein. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Betty Fogel of Winthrop and Ruth Gootkin of Newton, later of Detroit. She was raised and educated in Revere and lived in Newton for many years before moving to Westborough in 1978.
Barbara was employed as a secretary at GTE Sylvania (now General Dynamics) prior to her retirement. She was a member of Congregation B’Nai Shalom in Westborough and was an active volunteer in her community.
She is survived by daughter Lois J. Shaevel and her husband, William, of Jamaica Plain and son Fredric D. (Rick) Bloom of Manhattan, step-daughter Barrie Montross and her husband, John, of Burlington, VT, and step-daughter-in-law Ryan Adams of Norwich, VT, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by stepson Bertis H. (Woody) Adams III.
Barbara leaves grandchildren Jordana Estner of Portland, OR; Hillary Estner and partner Kyle Harris of Denver, CO; Jake Estner and wife Alissa Darsa of Jamaica Plain, MA; Matthew Montross and fiancée Peggy Rost of Portland, OR; Benjamin Montross and wife Kathryn of Montpelier, VT; Michael Adams and partner Kristen Correnti of McLean, VA; Tony Adams and wife Jackie Lin of Hong Kong; and Joshue Adams and wife Amanda Vinson of Orinda, CA. Great grandchildren are Phoenix Estner-Harris, Aurora Darsa, and James, William, Robert, Thomas, Helen, Eleanor, and Margaret Adams.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 19, at 10:00 A.M. at Congregation B’Nai Shalom, 117 East Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, 106 South St., Westborough. Visitation hours will be Friday evening, April 19, 7:00-9:00 P.M., at the home of Lois and Bill Shaevel, 241 Perkins Street, Unit D-502, Jamaica Plain.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to Congregation B’Nai Shalom, 117 East Main St., Westborough, MA 01581 or to the Talking Book Library, 3 Salem St., Worcester, MA 01608, which provided Barbara with countless hours of listening pleasure when she was no longer able to read her precious books.
