Richard P. CallaghanWeymouth – Richard P. Callaghan 81 of Weymouth and formerly of Marlborough died on Monday, April 15, 2024 in South Shore Hospital surrounded by his loving Family.

Richard was born in Framingham, the son of the late Matthew and Florence (D’Orazio) Callaghan.

He was predeceased by his wife of 28 years, Mary (Deneen) Callaghan in 1993.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Carol Callaghan of Northborough, his 2 sons, R. Patrick Callaghan and his wife Robin of Worcester, Robert Callaghan and is companion Vicki Taylor of Marlborough, 3 grandchildren, Joe, Robbie and Sarah, his brother, William Callaghan and his wife Rose of Northborough, his loving companion of 26 years, Janette Roswell of Weymouth as well as many, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother Robert E. Callaghan.

Richard graduated from Framingham High School Class of ’60.

Richard served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years aboard the USS Penguin, a Sub Rescue Vessell, and additionally served in the National Guard.

He was employed by Raytheon for 26 years, Lowell Plant where he was a foreman for the Sparrow Missile Program. Following his retirement from Raytheon he owned and operated for 29 years, Callaghan’s Firearms in Marlborough MA. The store was known as a social center where the sportsman could talk about the one that got away.

Richard was an avid sportsman, hunter and outdoorsman, a Life member of the Marlborough Fish & Game, he enjoyed his hunting trips and you would always hear him say, “I just want one more hunting trip to Texas.”

Following cremation, Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 4-6 pm in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 11 am in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson St., Marlborough. A Celebration of Life will follow the Graveside Service.
