Shrewsbury – Oh, what a night! On Nov. 2, an unusually warm fall evening, Shrewsbury Rotary and Shrewsbury High School teamed up to host seniors from the community for a dinner prior to the preview performance of the school’s fall play. Students have been hard at work preparing and rehearsing for this year’s play, “Almost Maine.”
This honored tradition has stood the test of time and now, over 20 years later, continues to thrive. Over 100 seniors were expected to attend the dinner and performance. School cafeteria employees donated their time to prepare the food and Shrewsbury Rotary absorbed most of the cost. Attendees paid a very small fee of $3 per person.
“We typically do this event twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring to try to highlight what the students are doing,” explained Council on Aging Director Sharon Yager. “It’s just a great special event to get the seniors out, have a nice dinner, socialize and see some quality entertainment. I always hear some rave reviews about what a great job the students do and the phenomenal performances. It’s a really fun time and it’s affordable. And we couldn’t do it without Rotary and we are really grateful.”
