Claire I. CarterGrafton/Charlton – Claire I. (Hardy) Carter, 71, passed away peacefully at Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester Sunday, April 8, 2018, surrounded by her loving children.

Claire prided herself on her work as a legal secretary and then as a paralegal for some of Worcester’s most prestigious law firms, including Keenan and Keenan and then for many years at Mountain, Dearborn, and Whiting as paralegal to Francis Russell, Esq.

Claire was an avid gardener and was very passionate about gardening and maintaining a beautiful landscape at all of her homes. She especially loved peonies and hydrangeas. She was an active member of the Osterville Garden Club and participated in many flower shows—often winning awards for her talents. She was also active with the American Red Cross.

Claire loved walking the beaches of Cape Cod and collecting special shells that she used in her arts and crafts. Claire was very fond of dogs—especially miniature dachshunds and had raised a half dozen loved pups in her adult lifetime. If you knew Claire you’ll remember a warm smile that was rivaled only be her kindness and compassion toward others.

Claire is survived by her daughter, Nicole Freniere and her husband Shawn of Charlton, and their daughter, Claire’s only grandchild, Jovanna Claire Bertrand; her son, Roger Limoges and his husband Jeff McDermott of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Simone Johnson, of Claremont N.H. and Sheila Satzow and her husband Michael of Claremont N.H., along with nieces and nephews. Claire was predeceased by her parents, Rita and Roger Hardy of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Claire grew up in Claremont, N.H., and lived throughout her adult life in Boston, Spencer, Grafton, Centerville, and Marstons Mills. She also spent several winters in Florida on Nettles Island.

Claire faced early onset Alzheimer’s disease bravely and lived her fullest life possible.

All are welcome to gather with Claire’s family Friday, April 13, from 10-11 a.m., at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton, followed by a prayer service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at her family’s convenience.
