Northborough – Algonquin Regional High School hosted a Central Mass. Division 1 soccer quarter-final doubleheader Nov 6. There was a buzz in the air all evening as these were the first night games played at Algonquin this season since the EEE restrictions were recently lifted.
In the first game of the evening, the top-seeded Algonquin girls (15-1-3) defeated Tantasqua by a score of 3-1. Lucy Rogers, Taylor Moore and Lucy Gauvin netted Algonquin’s goals. Tantasqua concluded their season with an overall 9-8-3 record. Algonquin moves on to the semi-finals where they will face North Middlesex on Nov. 11.
The second game of the evening was quite the thriller, with the seventh-seeded Westborough boys upsetting second-seeded Algonquin 2-1 in double overtime, on a goal by Jackson Barry. Algonquin’s Zach Fier put the first goal on the scoreboard, only to have Westborough’s Jack Phelps tie it up in the second period. Algonquin concludes their season with an overall 11-3-5 record. Westborough, now 9-5-6, advances to play Leominster on Nov. 11.
