Philomena R. HedinMarlborough – Philomena R. Mena (Turieo) Hedin, 83, passed away Jan. 14, 2021 after a brief illness. She was the wife of 40 years of the late William J. Hedin, who passed away in 2000.

Mena was born in Marlborough, the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Cardellicchio) Turieo and lived here all her life.

Mena was a 1954 graduate of Marlboro High School. She attended Harvard University, earning her degree in Library Science. She worked at the Marlborough Public Library for 59 years. She worked in both the Adult Room and Children’s Room, telling Children’s Story Hour to many Generations of families. The staff and patrons of the Library became a second family to her. She was much loved by everyone and loved everybody. Her sweet, kind demeanor, and helpfulness was appreciated by so many. She always greeted patrons with a smile on her face, eager to help them in any way she could.

One of the many loves in Mena’s life was also running the main desk at her son Billy’s baseball card shows for over four decades. She greeted everyone with a smile, with conversation, and a piece of candy. She made many friends of all ages over those years. She cherished those friendships dearly.

She is survived by two sons, William A. Hedin and his wife Leslie of Framingham and Daniel Hedin and Beth of Marlborough; one daughter, Jane M. Hedin of Danvers; six grandchildren, Tommy Allen Hedin and Kyle William Hedin, Dr. Whitney Hunt, Lindsay Heim, Jonathan Parker, and Amanda Ingles; a brother, Louis Turieo and his wife Elizabeth of Marlborough; her nephews, Louis Turieo and Sal Turieo, both of Marlborough; and many other nieces and nephews. In addition, Mena was a mother to anyone who needed one.

Funeral arrangements will be private, and a celebration of Mena’s Life will be held at a later date.
