MARLBOROUGH – Arthur Vigeant announced last week plans to seek reelection to his sixth two-year term as Marlborough Mayor.
As the election season officially began, incumbent city councilors Michael Ossing, Samantha Perlman, Donald Landers, Sean Navin and John Irish also all pulled papers to begin gathering signatures to get on the ballot.
“Having the opportunity to lead this great city continues to be the honor of a lifetime,” Vigeant said in a press release. “Over the next two years, we still have a lot of work to accomplish.”
Vigeant outlined a number of goals, including getting Marlborough vaccinated against COVID-19, and allowing both residents and businesses to resume their normal lives and operations.
Vigeant works as a certified public accountant and previously served 18 years on the Marlborough City Council. He had been City Council President for nine years when he won his first mayoral election in 2011.
Vigeant beat Matthew Jones in that first election and ran unopposed in 2013. He defeated former fire chief Edward “Skee” Bigelow” in 2015 and 2017 before facing off against longtime city police officer David Garceau and local businessman Keith St. John in 2019.
As Vigeant looks to continue a decades-long career in city politics, Navin and Perlman are mounting their first reelection bids after winning their way onto the City Council in 2019.
Councilors Kathleen Robey, Mark Oram, Laura Wagner, David Doucette, Christian Dumais and Robert Tunerra, meanwhile, had not pulled papers as of May 10 when they first became available.
Candidates have until August 13 to pull papers. They then must return signatures to get on the ballot by August 17.
In addition to the mayoral campaign, there are three School Committee, four at large City Council seats and seven ward City Council seats up for grabs.
The municipal election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 2.
