Shrewsbury – Michael M. “Mike” Kleminich, 86, a resident of Shrewsbury for 62 years, died Friday, July 5, 2013 following a long illness.
Mike was a dedicated teacher, coach, and athletic director for 36 years in the Shrewsbury school system until retiring in 1988. He was also a long-term coach of the Shrewsbury Quaranta Post American Legion baseball team, and is an inducted member of the Shrewsbury High School Hall of Fame as well as the Massachusetts Coach's Hall of Fame.
Mike was born in Detroit, Michigan son of the late John Robert and Fay Kleminich, and was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy stationed in Pensacola, Fla. Following the war, he attended Oswego State Teachers College.
Mike was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty, who also died July 5 three years ago. He leaves his two sons, Dan Kleminich and his wife Linda of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Jack Kleminich and his wife Bonnie of Shrewsbury; and his four grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Kleminich of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Jack Tyler and Alyssa Marie Kleminich of Shrewsbury. He also leaves hundreds of student athletes he coached whom he loved as much as they loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mike's family Tuesday, July 9, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. His funeral will be held Wednesday, July 10, with family gathering at the funeral home at 9 a.m. and then proceeding to St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St., to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
Instead of flowers, Mike's family requests that donations be sent to the Arthritis Foundation, 20 Crafts St., Suite 450, Newton, MA 02458-1287.
