Marlborough – The public is invited to attend the 20th annual Heritage Weekend Festival to be held Friday, Oct. 2, through Sunday, Oct. 4, in downtown Marlborough. Patrons may sample ethnic foods, listen to bands, watch dance performances, and meet local vendors. General admission and parking are free.
Starting Friday, Oct. 2, the Cushing Amusement Family Carnival will be held on South Bolton Street, from 6-10 p.m. The carnival will also be held Saturday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the same location.
A special new attraction Saturday will be the first Oktoberfest. Entertainment will be by German-style “OomPah” bands, “Schwarze Schafe” and “The Bavarian Brothers,” as well as the local rock band, “The Usual Suspects.” Sponsored by RKG Financial of Marlborough, the event will also provide German fare provided by the Epicurean Restaurant of Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School and steins of craft beer from Jack’s Abbey Brewing in Framingham. All will take place atop the parking deck behind City Hall on Weed Street from 12 – 8 p.m. The $20 per person admission fee includes entrance, a 16-ounce classic glass beer mug, and a ticket for one beverage. The Marlboro Main Street Mile Road Race will be held Sunday morning, starting at 9:45 a.m. at the corner of Broad and Lincoln streets. Visit www.highlandcitystriders.org for entry fees and more information.
One of the highlights of the weekend will be on Sunday when the annual Chili/Chowder Challenge is held, featuring 12 to 14 local restaurants competing for the title of “The Best.” The contest starts at 12:30 p.m. on Florence Street between Main Street and Granger Boulevard. Those wishing to taste and vote for their favorites can purchase tickets for $5 per person.
Also featured that day are a Farmers’ Market behind City Hall and a booth commemorating the Marlborough Historical Society’s 50th anniversary celebration with displays of historical items.
The Marlborough Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the weekend of fun, under the direction of Jackie Smith, project manager and event coordinator.
