Westborough – Patrons of the Outback restaurant located at 227 Turnpike Road were surprised when they went to the restaurant over the weekend of Feb. 18-19 and discovered that it had been abruptly closed. Town officials were also unaware of the sudden closure.
According to Outback employees who were cleaning out the restaurant during the early morning hours of Feb. 21. the restaurant “had not been doing well.”
“It happens all the time. Just one of those things,” an employee said he was loading one of the several U-hauls trucks outside the restaurant.
None of the employees would give their names or any other information on the sudden closing but rather referred any inquiries to Bloomin’ Brands, the Florida-based parent company.
“We are giving all employees a severance package and are working to place them in our other restaurants,” said Elizabeth Watts, director of media & community relations for Bloomin’ Brands.
“Closing a restaurant is never easy. It was a business decision and has no reflection on the employees or their service.”
The employees on site Feb. 21 declined to say if they knew of any future plans for the site.
