Religious leaders unite in support of child immigrants

As leaders of diverse faith communities we are writing with one voice that transcends all the differences in our theologies and personal opinions. When President Trump ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, this action crushed the dreams of nearly a million young people covered by the executive order. These young people, brought to the United States by their parents, have done everything our government has asked of them.

League of Women voters invite public to presentation on Ranked Choice Voting

A winning merger has taken place: the League of Women Voters chapters of Shrewsbury and Grafton are now one! I think most residents in both towns have heard of the LWV and may believe most towns of our size have a chapter. Not so. In fact, in all of central Massachusetts, this is one of only three chapters. In learning about the local League’s history, I recognize the thanks we owe the founding women and the current members (men included!) who continue to fulfill its non-partisan mission. A piece of that mission is to bring important national and state issues to public attention.

Thank you from Spirit of Shrewsbury Festival Committee

The 2017 Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival has closed out another successful celebration.  Warm weather drew crowds of near record numbers to the annual Town Expo and Craft Fair.

Thank you Captain Houston!

Thank you Captain Jay Houston for 40 years of dedicated service to the Northborough Fire Department. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement.

Needs of all citizens must be kept in mind regarding issue of field lights

With the many pros and cons regarding proposed field lights, one thing that can’t be disputed is hard core financials. The Stadium Renovation budget (w/out Lights) is $3.5 million.  Lights come with a $400,000 price tag.  Another $12.5 million for a new Pre-K building is being proposed.

Thank you from Westborough 300th anniversary committees

On behalf of our entire Westborough 300th Anniversary Committee and the Grande Parade Planning Committee, we would like to say a great big “THANK YOU” to the many organizations, businesses, and individuals who contributed to the immense success of our Town’s celebration on September 10. After more than a year of diligent planning, our Grande Parade did not disappoint!

Westborough’s 300th anniversary parade was awesome

What an awesome parade! With all the political unrest in this country, uncertainty in world affairs, and devastating storms ripping through our neighbors’ yards to the far south, the Westborough parade was an exciting diversion for us.

‘Thank you’ for generous donation to St. Anne’s

An open letter to the committee and participants of the annual Hannah Kane Charity Golf Tournament at the Haven in Boylston: We are most grateful for your generous donation from your fantastic golf event for charity. It’s amazing to see the support shown for this annual event and watching it grow bigger yearly.

Thank you Sen. Moore

Shrewsbury resident Ruth Cohen wrote this thank you to State. Sen. Michael Moore (D-Millbury) after he hosted an ice cream social at the Shrewsbury Senior Center Aug. 28.

State Sen. Eldridge cares more about the safety of illegal immigrants than Mass. citizens

The Mass SJC, in one of its liberal modes, ruled last month to place the residents of this Commonwealth at risk by releasing illegal aliens subject to federal detainer requests. The SJC decided for the rest of us, that illegal immigrants charged or even convicted elsewhere of even the most serious or violent crimes could not be held by Massachusetts law enforcement one minute for ICE to act on the detainer.

President should not have pardoned Arpaio

With so much tragedy and horror in the world that is out of our control, it is appalling to me that the president added to the pain and mistreatment suffered by the victims of former Sheriff Arpaio by pardoning him with the simple and erroneous statement that Arpaio was convicted for “doing his job.”

Thank you for successful swap event

"Swapclothes123" in Shrewsbury is growing in families and sizes. This event would not be possible without everyone coming to swap. Thank you. The kids had a blast and kept busy coloring and building LEGO castles.

Thank you for all involved with Kane golf event

On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and clients of Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to State Representative Hannah Kane, Tournament Chair Beth Casavant, community volunteers, The Haven Country Club, and all the generous sponsors and donors for all their hard work in organizing the Hannah Kane 3rd Annual Charity Classic, that was held on August 21.

Bourque will serve as Applefest grand marshal

Northborough - Some Northborough residents like to refer to resident Gerard “Gerry” Bourque as the most patriotic man they have had the pleasure of knowing. And, if you ever have the opportunity to meet him and hear his many stories, you just may agree! In 1953, when Gerard Bourque chose to enlist in the US Army, he knew he was making a big decision. However, he probably did not realize his commitment of serving would still be occurring today at the age of 84.

Westborough prepares to celebrate 300th anniversary with grand parade

Westborough – “Everyone Loves a Parade” and Westborough is going to have a great one to celebrate the 300th anniversary of our town. The parade will officially begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017.

Letter to the Editor – Anger over situation involving geese

I am submitting this for awareness of a bad traffic situation on South Street in Shrewsbury. My anger and outrage has subsided from the incident that caused it but the situation is still there namely excessive speed on this road.

Thank you for aid and support after house fire

On behalf of the entire Robinson Family, we would like to send our sincerest gratitude to the Westborough Fire and Police Departments for their swift and valiant response to a house fire at 100 Milk Street on July 1st.  We would also like to thank the Northborough, Southborough, Hopkinton, Grafton and Upton Fire Departments for their mutual aid in the matter.

Thank you from RTN Federal Credit Union

RTN Federal Credit Union extends its sincere thanks to the walkers, volunteers, donors and businesses who participated in our seventh annual Walk Home June 11 in Waltham, Dorchester and Danvers. The event was a huge success.

Ban on plastic bags poses difficulties for senior citizen

As a senior citizen having a hard time living on Social Security, which has not increased in three years, and having a more difficult time paying Shrewsbury taxes which have increased $1,200 in the past three years, I want to thank you  - the voters – for getting rid of plastic grocery bags.

Thank you to community from Apple Tree Arts

Thanks to the community for supporting Apple Tree Arts’ fourth annual Community Ice Cream Social celebrated on June 14 on the Grafton Common.
