Proctor School students visit Northborough Historical Society Museum

Northborough – Third-graders from Fannie E. Proctor Elementary School took a field trip June 18 to the Northborough Historical Society Museum, where they learned more about the town as well as their school's namesake. The museum features a classroom setting with a college photo of Proctor dated 1904-1905. Another photo captures Proctor with her first-grade students.

Little Bruins fan becomes Internet sensation

Northborough - Marian E. Zeh Elementary School second-grader Liam Fitzgerald became an overnight sensation when a video of him fist-bumping Boston Bruins players as they skated off the ice after their pre-game warmup went viral. The video has logged more than 4.5 million hits so far. To say that 8-year-old Liam is “Boston Strong” is an understatement. Liam was born with Down syndrome in 2006 and diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2009. After undergoing four years of treatment, Liam is cancer-free. Through it all, said his mother Christine, he kept on smiling.

Open house to be held at Cornerstone Academy

Northborough - Cornerstone Academy, 5 Oak Ave., Northborough, will hold an open house Friday, Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. Cornerstone Academy is a private, coeducational school for children in grades K-6. Through small class sizes and individualized instruction, the school offers an academically challenging environment that utilizes a blend of traditional and innovative teaching techniques, such as hands-on teaching models to reinforce concepts and experiential learning through experimentation and field trips.

Second annual 5K in memory of middle school Spanish teacher

Northborough - The second annual Lisa Kaplan 5K race is scheduled for Saturday, May 20. The race honors the memory of a 12-year veteran Spanish teacher at Robert E. Melican Middle School who passed away in November 2015 after only a six-week battle with a rare cancer.
