Shrewsbury voting precinct sites to be moved

Shrewsbury - Town Clerk Sandra Wright addressed the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen June 23 regarding the suitability of current precinct voting locations. Two of them are in private buildings, which has led to a concern that during a future election, they may not be open and available to the public for voting. Precinct 2 votes at the Gesang Verein Frohsinn Club, 25 N. Quinsigamond Ave., and Precinct 4 at the Scandinavian Athletic Club, 438 Lake St. Wright agreed with selectmen that the situation may have resulted in low voter turnout in these precincts in past elections.

Shrewsbury - For as long as Ben North can remember, stuttering has been part of his life. His mother, Julie, says Ben's stuttering came on gradually when he was between 5 and 6years old. "Ben was chronically sick for his first three years of life, including chronic ear infections, a ruptured ear drum at 9 months old, and a life-threatening illness at age 2," Julie said. "His speech was a little bit delayed and when he began talking, he had some articulation issues."

Local business, nonprofit team up to help neighbors affected by breast cancer

Shrewsbury – Each year, Roger and Sue McCarthy donate to a selected charity on behalf of the business they own, McCarthy Landscaping and Irrigation, Inc. Long-time supporters of breast cancer aid organizations, the couple had personal reasons this year for wanting to find an organization that helps local people affected by the disease. Sue’s research turned up the Breast Friends Connection, which offers a monthly support group in Shrewsbury as well as other assistance. After learning details about what the group provides, the McCarthys wrote them a check for $2,000 to support the organization.
