Students awarded Marlborough chamber scholarships

Marlborough – Two local students are this year’s recipients of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Cathy Gregory Mogavero Business Professionals of America Award. Checks for $500 were presented to the two students, Katelyn Godere, a senior from Marlborough High School (MHS) and Andre Colleoni-Pimenta, a senior from Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School (AVRTHS), in a ceremony held at the MRCC’s headquarters April 15.

Northborough pinwheels represent 'shiny’ future for youth

Northborough - Community volunteers and members of the Northboro Junior Woman's Club planted an unusual garden March 30 at Town Hall. A thousand pinwheels were plunked into the soil, each one representing a donation to Massachusetts Citizens for Children. As a whole, the garden of spinning, flashing blue "Pinwheels For Prevention" will bring awareness to National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. According to Lori Hagen, treasurer or the Northborough Junior Woman's Club, which spearheaded the fundraiser, almost $1,000 was raised for Citizens for Children, exceeding last's year's amount by about $250.

George Jr., does so much volunteering at her husband's alma mater – Alfred University, in Alfred, N.Y. - that she was recently honored by the school with its Honorary Alumna Recognition Award, making her an honorary alumna.

Officials hope new system will reduce stuck trucks

Westborough – Over the last few years, it has been a common, vexing problem for town officials – trucks attempting to pass under the low CSX railroad bridge on East Main Street (Route 30) end up getting stuck. Although there are signs leading up to the bridge and the structure itself is clearly marked "DANGER – 12" 6" – LOW BRIDGE," many truckers still try to go under the bridge.
