Region – Voters in the seven main communities the Community Advocate covers (Grafton, Hudson, Marlborough, Northborough, Shrewsbury, Southborough and Westborough) for the most part voted alike in the Nov. 8 presidential election. Although she lost her bid nationally for president to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton came in first in the seven towns. Clinton won in Massachusetts as well.
The seven towns all voted no for two of the state ballot questions: Question 1 – expand slot machine gaming; and Question 2 – expand charter schools. All seven voted in favor of Question 3 – improve farm animal confines. Those outcomes were consistent with the overall state results.
Question 4 (legalize recreational marijuana) was the only time the seven communities broke rank with each other. The measure won in Grafton, Hudson, and Marlborough, while it did not in Northborough, Shrewsbury, Southborough, and Westborough. Ultimately the question passed in Massachusetts, 1,745,221-1,512,871.
