Region – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced two upcoming public meetings regarding the proposed I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvement Project in Hopkinton, Westborough and Southborough in an effort to hear public input and to provide community members with the background and current status of the project. The full schedule for the upcoming public meetings is as follows: Wednesday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m., Hopkinton Middle School, 88 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton; and Thursday, Nov. 16, 7 p.m., Westborough Town Hall, 34 W. Main St., Westborough.
MassDOT is hosting these public meetings and coordinating with key stakeholders in order to receive input on the project’s purpose and need. Future activities will also include selecting a preferred alternative design for the interchange, completing design work, and environmental analysis and permitting, with community input and public outreach occurring throughout these phases.
Previous work has included completing a one-year study on potential changes to the interchange as well as environmental notifications, coordination with state, local, and federal stakeholders, ground surveying, and traffic data collection.
The purpose of discussions is to achieve the goal of providing a safer and more efficient crossroads of the Interstate Highways I-495 and I-90 (the Massachusetts Turnpike), which is a high-volume area for motor vehicles and is used by nearly half of freight truck traffic entering eastern Massachusetts.
