    By Bonnie Adams, Government Editor

Westborough – Patricia Fotos has enjoyed many meals at the South Street Diner in Westborough. Now, thanks to an essay she wrote about the establishment, she will have some financial assistance when she enters her freshman year at Wake Forest University this fall.

Patricia was recently named as the 2011 recipient of a $500 scholarship that the diner awards each year. The scholarship was established in 2005 by Phyllis Keene and Mark Sullivan, the diner's proprietors.

Applicants are asked to write a review, in essay format, about the diner and their experience there. When she found out that she was this year's recipient, Patricia said she was excited to receive the “very generous” award.

Keene and Sullivan said they feel the scholarship is a way to give back to others in their community.

“It's important for everyone to do their part,” Keene said. “[Westborough] has been great to us so we really wanted to give something back.”

Patricia hopes to study business at Wake Forest. She is the daughter of Lauren and Bill Fotos of Westborough.
