Southborough – Enjoy a perfect day of ballet fun for the budding dancers and story lovers in your family Thursday, Aug. 2, at 2:30 p.m., when ballerinas from Ballet Arts Worcester take center stage at the Southborough Library. Author David Ira Rottenberg will read his picture book, Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig, while the dancers perform the story. As an added treat, a mini-movement lesson will be offered to the children in the audience after the performance and Rottenberg will sign copies of his book.

Picture book author David Rottenberg contacted the Ballet Arts of Worcester's Artistic Director, Jennifer Agbay, about offering the event in local libraries and Agbay was immediately enthusiastic

“The piece allows our lovely young dancers to collaborate with an artist in another genre and share both dance and a love of reading with young people,” Agbay said.

Agbay hopes that Ballet Arts of Worcester will do more performances of Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig, and she looks forward to finding other opportunities for collaboration.

“Part of our mission is to share the arts with as many people as possible. We hope to continue with more outreach programs of this nature, which benefit both the participants and the audiences with whom we share what we love to do!”

Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig tells the tale of Gwendolyn and Omar, two best friends who have big dreams. Gwendolyn longs to dance ballet and Omar wants to join the football team. There is just one problem: they are both pigs!

The event is free, and don's forget to bring your cameras! Southborough Library is located at 25 Main St.
