Marlborough – – The Marlborough High School Panthers defeated the Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks 13-7 in a football game played at Kelleher Field Sept. 19. The Panthers improved their record to 1-1 while the Tomahawks fell to 0-2 on the season.
The game was scoreless until late in the second quarter when Marlborough’s Jake Dionne returned an interception 47 yards to the 3-yard line. Algonquin’s defense held back Marlborough for two plays, until lineman Liam Shanahan fell over the goal line after recovering an errant handoff by quarterback Brian Short that popped up in the air and fell into his arms.
Marlborough extended their lead to 13-0 late in the third quarter after Marlborough’s quarterback Brian Short scored on a 10-yard run.
Algonquin rallied in the fourth quarter. Running back Sean Boullianne rushed for a touchdown following a 50-yard pass from Ryan Berry to Kyle Hill. On their next possession, Algonquin launched a final drive that ended abruptly with just 0:13 left in the game with another interception by Marlborough.
