Region – Several area soccer teams were active over the weekend of Nov. 8-9 hoping to qualify for the Central Mass. Division 1 finals. Overtime was the theme of the weekend, as three of the four games went beyond regulation time in order to determine a winner.
In games played Nov. 8 at Foley Stadium in Worcester, the fourth-seed Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) girls defeated top-seeded Wachusett Regional High School (WRHS) by a score of 2-1. The third-seeded WRHS boys topped Shrewsbury High School 2-1, in the only game that finished in regular time.
Nashoba Regional High School hosted the games played on Nov. 9. The top-seeded ARHS boys defeated fourth-seed Westborough High School 4-3. Finally, the second-seeded Westborough girls lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to third-seeded Nashoba Regional in double overtime.
In the district finals, the boys’ matchup will consist of Algonquin versus Wachusett, while Nashoba Regional will take on ARHS in the girls’ game.
