Shrewsbury – Laura (Trotto) DeMaria, 89, of Shrewsbury, a friend to all, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, with family gathered by her side.
Laura was born in Worcester, one of seven children of Italian immigrants Ralph and Mary (Guerra) Trotto. She grew up in Worcester and graduated from Commerce High School. In 1945, she married Carl DeMaria at Our Lady of Mt Carmel-St. Ann Church. They settled in Shrewsbury, where for the next 62 years lived and loved happily until Carl passed away April 4, 2007. Laura continued to live in Shrewsbury.
Laura is survived by her two brothers, Michael “Mickey” Trotto and his wife Joanne, and her principal caregivers, and their sons, Michael Trotto and his wife Yusie, Marc Trotto and his wife Deanna, Matthew Trotto and his wife Teri, all who watched over her and helped care for her needs daily during the last two years of declining health to make her as comfortable as they could. She also leaves another brother, Ralph Trotto Jr. and his wife Ruth and their sons, Steven and Darren; a sister-in-law, Frances Trotto; and many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, and notably close friends and neighbors who watched over and helped her through the years, including David Johnson and family, Norma Cummins and family, and Stephen Piscitelli. Two brother, Saverio and Leonard Trotto, and two sisters, Angela Renzulli and Lillian Trotto, all predeceased her.
Laura was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She loved to cook, care for her home, and especially care for family and friends. She was a simple woman who found her greatest memories with those she loved and knew. She will be greatly missed.
Laura’s funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 16 from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a procession to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1260 Grafton St., where her Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to leaving for church.
