Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Stow – Harold F. “Skeets” Downey, 71, of Stow, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 at Marlborough Hospital. He leaves his beloved wife of 40 years, Gail A. (Blanchette) Downey of Stow.

Skeets was born and raised in Marlborough, son of the late Harold and Eleanor (Severance) Downey. He attended local schools and was a 1961 graduate of Marlborough High School. He was a resident of Stow for the past 40 years, and was employed as a financial analyst by Polaroid Corp. in Waltham for 35 years until retiring in 1999. He was a U. S. Army Vietnam Veteran.

He was a member of the Hudson Elks, the Moose Lodge of Marlborough, the American Legion Post 0462 in Hudson, the Marlborough Country Club, the Bolton St. Association, and the Roller Tappits Hot Rod Club in Hudson.

Skeets enjoyed golfing in his spare time and was a former member of the Hudson Senior Hockey League. He fondly remembered his days of playing hockey and softball as a member of P.J’s teams in Hudson and looked forward to spending time in Florida with his wife Gail.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sister, Lynne Montague of Hudson, and his brother, Wayne Downey of Cape Cod. He was predeceased by his sister, Gayle Dirico. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may attend calling hours Monday Jan. 19, from 4-7 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Skeets may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
