New Wilmington, Penn. – Allen Langord, 80, of New Wilmington, Penn., formerly of Southborough, died peacefully at home Thursday, March 19, 2015, surrounded by his family.
Born in Pittsburgh, Penn., he was the son of the late A. Milton and Carol Langord.
Allen attended MIT and enjoyed a proliferative and varied career with several optical and nuclear companies, including American Optical, Perkin-Elmer and Visidyne. Most recently, he served as project manager for the Large Millimeter Telescope Project at UMass Amherst.
Allen will be most remembered, however, for his talent and skill as an organist, conductor and musician. He served as both organist and choir director at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Southborough for many years and started the annual tradition of performing Handel’s Messiah with choir, soloists and full orchestra during the Christmas holiday season. His passion for classical and sacred music inspired many and his musical legacy will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Judy; his children, Laura (Langord) Yellick of Northborough, Brendan Langord of Worcester, Jillian (Langord) King of Springfield, Va., and Christian Langord of Phippsburg, Maine; and his grandchildren, Clara Anderson and Faith Yellick of Northborough, Chelsea and Dylan Langord of Worcester, Shane and Jolen King of Springfield, Va., and Soren and Bjorn Langord of Phippsburg, Maine.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, March 25, from 5-8 p.m., at Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 26, at 11 a.m., at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 15 Common St., Southborough. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Allen’s memory to the Jameson Friends of Hospice, 1211 Wilmington Ave., New Castle, PA 16105.
