Northborough – Three musical groups from Algonquin Regional High School recently had a once in a lifetime opportunity to perform on stage at Boston’s Symphony Hall, as part of the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) “Gold Medal Showcase” held April 11.
The Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and String Orchestra all won gold medals at the MICCA Concert Festival, held March 27-29. Schools from throughout Massachusetts participated in the festival, and groups were awarded medals based upon an evaluation of their performance. Each school that had a gold medal winning group was entered into a lottery for a chance at a 30-minute time slot to play at Symphony Hall, and Algonquin was selected for one of the coveted time slots. All three groups shared the time so that each one would have an opportunity to play.
The Symphonic Band was conducted by Eric Vincent and the Wind Ensemble and String Orchestra were conducted by Amy Collins.
