Northborough – Northborough residents didn’t need snow on the ground to bring out the holiday spirit for the annual Holiday Trolley and tree lighting ceremony Dec. 5. Two trolleys transported passengers to stops at local businesses where they could shop, have a sweet treat, create an ornament or work on a craft.

The event was sponsored by Northboro Local First, a collaborative effort by local, independent small business owners, community members and nonprofit organizations to help build and maintain a vibrant local economy.

The event concluded at Blake Street for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, sponsored by the Northborough Community Affairs Committee. Hundreds attended the event including town officials.

The Assabet Valley Chambersingers provided music, the National Anthem was sung by Mary Kate Ellsworth, and students from the Marion E. Zeh Elementary School directed by Allyn Phelps led the audience in carols.

Hot cocoa and cookies were provided and Northboro House of Pizza provided pizza and collected donations to support the Northborough Food Pantry.
