Worcester – The Algonquin Regional High School girls’ basketball season came to an end as they fell to Natick High School by a score of 52-42 in a Central Mass Division 1 Semi-final matchup played Sunday, March 6, at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Algonquin had advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Worcester South and Worcester North in earlier playoff rounds.

Algonquin jumped out to an early 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Natick surged in the second quarter to take a 27-22 lead at halftime. Algonquin continued to fight but was unable to catch up.

Algonquin senior Caroline Leonard was the game’s top scorer with 16 points, and Elyssa Nicholas hit three 3-pointers and scored a total of 13 points. Rachel McMenemy contributed 9.

Algonquin concludes their season with an overall 13-10 record. Natick advances to play Wachusett in the Division 1 finals on Saturday, March 12.
