Marlborough-Overall safety, traffic, early morning and evening noise, signage, landscaping and water supply protection were among the many concerns voiced by residents of the Glen and Ames streets area of the city during a public hearing held during the Marlborough City Council’s March 7 meeting.
Developers of the Apex Center of New England are proposing to build a hospitality and recreation mixed use overlay district on the southerly side of Boston Post Road West (Route 20) to the west of Glen Street to Ames Street, on an approximate 43.6 acres of land.
The complex would include hotels, restaurants, an indoor recreation and entertainment center and office buildings, said Arthur Bergeron, an attorney who is representing the developers. About 70 percent of the site is already committed by businesses, according to developer Robert Walker, including a 237-room hotel by Hyatt Regency and a 110 Grille Restaurant.
Several councilors posed questions to Walker and asked that he provide the information during the Urban Affairs Committee meeting where the request was referred to for study. Bergeron said he is planning to have a parking and traffic study conducted in the near future. Walker is planning to start construction in June and have the 11 buildings ready to open in November 2017.
