Region: Fun runs for local runners

Region – Mark your summer and fall calendar for five unique road races, each with its own special challenge and benefiting local charities.

The 5K Spirit of Hudson Road Race with free Mighty Mite Marathon for kids 2 – 6 will be held Saturday, June 11, at 8:30 a.m. The race will start at 5 Houghton St. (around the corner from Medusa Brewing Co.) in Hudson. The race is part of the Hudson Community Festival; 100 percent of the proceeds go to the Elks scholarship fund. USA Track & Field (USATF) certified/walkers welcome/medal awards.

The Running with the Wolves 10K will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 6:30 p.m. beginning at Kelleher Field, 72 Jefferson St., Marlborough. Proceeds go to local food pantries. Post-race party at the Prospector East Saloon, 520 Lincoln St., Marlborough. USATF certified/walkers welcome/medal awards.

On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, there will be a 10-mile road race, the Laborious Labor Day 10-miler, beginning at 8 a.m. at Ghiloni Park, 239 Concord Road, Marlborough. Challenge yourself on the back roads of Marlborough and Hudson. Entry fee is 15 canned goods for local food pantries. No Chip Time/no awards/no pre-registration (just show up!)

The family-oriented Marlboro Main Street Mile will be held Sunday, Oct. 2, at 9:45 a.m. at the Prospector East Saloon. The race is a fast downhill mile to City Hall. Participants may enjoy the Heritage Day Festival after the race. Proceeds go to running shoes for needy local school athletes. Walkers welcome/medal awards

On Sunday, Nov. 27, the Tough Turkey 10-mile Trot will begin at 9 a.m. from Ghiloni Park.

Challenge yourself on the back roads of Marlborough and Hudson. Entry fee is 15 canned goods for local food pantries. No chip time/no awards/no pre-registration (just show up!)
