Westborough – In honor of Memorial Day, 25 Westborough High School (WHS) National Honor Society (NHS) members volunteered May 13 to place over 1,400 American flags next to the headstones of deceased service members at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Pine Grove Cemetery, Midland Cemetery, and Memorial Cemetery.
This annual ritual was previously performed solely by veterans, and over the past several years Westborough veterans have teamed up with WHS students to accomplish this massive undertaking. This year, under the leadership of incoming NHS President Audrey Vaver, students worked side by side with Westborough Veterans Advisory Board members Brent French, Paul Freeman, Paul Horrigan, Ken Ferrera, John Gallinagh and his grandson Declan, and Memorial Day Grand Marshal David Hero.
The outgoing president of the NHS Audrey Von Maszewski, Vaver, and NHS Faculty Advisor Greg Rota helped orchestrate the event that included NHS members Lizzy Baldwin, Kyra Barrett, Skyler Barry, Anthony Cai, Elise Chan, James Chen, Declan Donovan, Jessica Freed, Sakshi Gera, Isha Hameed, Nikita Jaggi, Troy Kanji, Yashvi Khakhar, Frantz Kjoniksen, Brett Lebow, Joe Liebert, Emma Martin, Caitlin McCarthy, Tor Ramos, Jillian Smith, Helena Spofford, Samantha Steinberg, Jerry Teng and Jack Van Heest.
Also lending invaluable support were Rick Ricardi and his sons Caleb, Ethan and Nathaniel.
