Alfred J. Zerega, of HudsonHudson – Alfred J. Zerega, of Hudson, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 at Mass General Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health.

Al was born in Somerville, a son of the late Alfred J and Mary R. (Gardner) Zerega.  Al married the love of his life, Jean C. (Condon) Zerega, on June 3, 1961. Together they settled in Waltham where they raised their family before retiring to Lake Boon, Hudson, where they have resided for the past 25 years. Al worked for Digital Equipment prior to retiring in 1991.

Throughout the years, Al was active with the youth sports in Waltham, where he coached baseball, football and ski teams. He also served on the Waltham Conservation Commission. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping with his family in the White Mountains at Dolly Copp campground. He also was an avid hunter, skier and boating enthusiast, served as Past Commodore at both Newton Yacht Club as well as the Volunteer Yacht Club in Lynn. During the winter months, Al and his wife enjoyed their time in the Florida Keys.

Al will be missed by his loving wife, Jean, and their three children, Alan J. Zerega of Hudson, Cheryl Z. Mitrano and her husband, Mark, of Westford, and Glen R. Zerega and his wife, Kathryn  of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Zachary, Mark, Nicholas, Katelyn, Ashley and Danielle; a brother, Ronald Zerega of Waltham; and three sisters, Phyllis Kulsa, Joan Budryk, Marianne Carey, along with many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 29 at Saint Michael Parish of Hudson, with final committal at Saint Michael Cemetery.
