George O. AlexanderShrewsbury – George O. Alexander, 100, longtime resident of Shrewsbury, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 in Beaumont of Worcester.

He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Bertie and Nellie M. (Ogden) Alexander.

George started his own company in 1948, the American Window Cleaning Company. This is a company that he operated for 40 years, retiring in 1988. In his retirement, his claim to fame was woodworking and making small wooden toy cars. He also enjoyed gardening and maintaining his own perfectly groomed yard.

He leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret A. (Carroll) Alexander; his children, James Alexander and his wife Margaret of Stanley, N.C., William Mawdsley and his wife Kelley of East Sandwich, Wayne Mawdsley of Winchester, N.H., and Elaine Neely and her husband Michael of Charlton; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters, Patricia Soderlund and Georgia Boeklan; a sister, Beatrice Beckwith; and two brothers, Frank and Burton Alexander.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with George’s family Tuesday, Dec. 19, from 10-11 a.m, in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury, followed by a service celebrating his life at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
