Sudbury – Robert William Eaton, 83, of Sudbury and formerly of Raynham, and a past longtime resident of Cumberland Center, passed away peacefully at UMass Medical Center in Worcester Thursday, April 19, 2018. He was the beloved husband of 55 years of Marjorie E. (Thistle) Eaton, who died in 2012. Born in Everett, he was the son of the late Harris and Ada (Baggs) Eaton.
Bob was a 1952 graduate of Everett High School and attended Wentworth Institute. He lived in Cumberland Center, Maine for 42 years where he raised his family and enjoyed life to the fullest. Bob and his beloved wife Marjorie relocated to Raynham in 2010 to be closer to their children. This past fall, he relocated to Sudbury and resided at Orchard Hill.
Bob was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea from 1953 to 1956. After his service, he started his career as the owner and operator of the family business, Eaton Service Station in Everett, which opened in 1926. Bob then went on to have a career with GM Corporation beginning in1968, which relocated his family to Maine. He spent the next 25 years with GM traveling the state of Maine as a sales representative and trainer in the automotive industry until his retirement in 1994.
He had a variety of interests, including his love of automobiles, spending time with his family, boating in Casco Bay, volunteering at Maine Medical Center in Portland and then at Morton Hospital in Taunton, Mass., as well as serving as an active member of Cumberland Congregational Church, in Cumberland Center and Lakeville United Church of Christ in Lakeville, Mass.
Remembered as a true gentleman with his warm smile and positive outlook, he believed it was always important to treat people with kindness and respect.
Bob is survived by a son, Mark Robert Eaton and his wife Carol of Tolland, Conn. and a daughter, Susan Eaton Conti and her husband Mark of Southborough; seven grandchildren, Jason, David, Robert, Donald and Nysaiha Eaton and Elizabeth and Emily Conti; two sisters, June Johnson of Florida and Gail Wood of Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 24, from 3-6 p.m., at Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 25, at 11 a.m., at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 15 Common St., Southborough.
