Shrewsbury – When severe storms were predicted on Aug. 7, the Tom Nutile Big Band concert, co-sponsored by Shrewsbury Parks & Recreation and the Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library, was relocated from Dean Park to the Shrewsbury Public Library.
Tom Nutile and his 15-piece band (along with two vocalists) performed for an hour and a half as their big band sound and swing tunes filled the Community Room at the library in an intimate gathering. They masterfully covered a range from Benny Goodman, Henry Mancini, and Frank Sinatra to George Gershwin. They even dazzled the audience with a jazzy rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
Vocals were supplied by the Jim Bramante and Marianne Talty, both of whom have extensive professional musical experience. Talty sang a beautiful rendition of Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” and a highlight by Bramante was “Under the Boardwalk” by The Drifters. They also teamed up for a few duets.
