Rachel Xu WangWestborough – Rachel Xu Wang, 57, of Westborough and formerly of Raritan, N.J., passed away peacefully Oct. 15, 2019 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. Her passing was preceded by a resilient, decade-long fight with breast cancer.

Born in Shanghai, China, she is the daughter and only child of Changtai Xu and Jialan Pan. After attending Fudan University in Shanghai, she immigrated to the United States to pursue a master’s degree at Baylor College of Medicine.

Rachel was employed as a scientist for Genzyme Corporation in Framingham and for Sanofi-Aventis in Bridgewater, N.J., who had purchased Genzyme. She had spent most of her life dedicated to drug research, most recently for combatting cancer. Colleagues and family alike often regarded her as sociable, tremendously hard-working, and someone who never complains.

Rachel enjoyed traveling around the globe, especially to Europe. At home she was an avid gardener, her favorite plants including orchids, roses, and tulips. When not working, one could find her on YouTube watching Chinese soap operas or singing competitions. Though not a big sports follower, she was quite the fan of Tom Brady.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her son, Curtis Wang of Westborough; a sister-in-law and her husband, Jessica and Michael Lam of Sugar Land, Texas; and her former husband, Louis Wang.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m., in the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. A calling hour will be held prior to her service from 9-10 a.m.
