SHREWSBURY – St. John’s Boys Lacrosse defeated the team from Algonquin Regional High School 16-6 in a matchup played on May 22 at Pioneer Field in Shrewsbury.

St. John’s jumped out to a 6-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back.  They expanded the lead to 10-3 by halftime and then wrapped up the third quarter ahead 13-4.

Joe Lombardi netted three goals for the Pioneers, while Jake Mrva, Eric Brooks and Padraig Vona each scored twice.

Charlie David scored four goals for Algonquin.

The loss was Algonquin’s first since May 8, snapping a five game win streak that featured victories against area opponents like Shrewsbury, Grafton and Westborough. It dropped Algonquin’s win-loss record to 6-2.

St. John’s, meanwhile, notched its win amid an up-and down season. This victory immediately followed a 15-8 loss to Xavarian on May 21 and improved the Pioneers’ record to 3-3.

Algonquin will now wrap up its season on Tuesday, June 1.

St. John’s completes its schedule a week later, on Tuesday, June 8.

“Nice team effort today!” read a post on the St John’s Lacrosse Twitter account following the May 22 game. “Back at it on Monday.”
