MARLBOROUGH – The Marlborough City Council voted unanimously June 21 to accept a $7,500 grant to assist with the cost of a food truck and artisan festival.

The grant, which was accepted from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and sent to the Marlborough Downtown Village Cultural District, will be used for a festival on Sunday, Sept. 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“I think this is going to be a wonderful event, looking forward to it,” said Councilor John Irish.

Meredith Harris, the executive director for the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation, said that the grant received is a COVID-19 relief grant, as it will give artists impacted by the pandemic an opportunity to display their work.

“We are really trying to reactivate folks with this event,” Harris said in an interview with the Community Advocate. “We’re going to be bringing in local artists and hoping to have some live music.”

She added that part of Main Street will be closed down for the event in order to have room for vendors and artists.

Harris said that this event comes after a previous food truck festival held in 2019. A second one in 2020 was not possible because of the pandemic.

“The event in September of 2019 was hugely successful, so we are happy to bring it back after COVID,” Harris said.
