Jennie B. DuncanShrewsbury – Jennie B. (Protano) Duncan, 96, of Shrewsbury passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Westborough.

Jennie is survived by two sons, James S. Duncan and his wife Marilyn of Shrewsbury and Paul P. Duncan and his wife Cynthia of Charlton; five grandchildren, Paul, Alisha, Jerry, Kathleen, and Christopher; five great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by five siblings, Gaetano Protano, Rose Balcewicz, Antoinette Provost, Vincenza Zeek, and Michelina Bibeau.

Jennie was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, Santo and Angelina (Lapomardo) Protano. She grew up in Worcester, settled in Northborough in 1956 before moving to Shrewsbury in 1968.

Jennie worked for many years in food services at the former Worcester City Hospital and later at UMass Medical, before retiring in 1990. She had been a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and was currently a communicant of Saint Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury. She was a member of the Mount Carmel Golden Years and The Shrewsbury Senior Center.

Jennie was an avid baker and made many wedding cakes as a hobby in the 1960’s and 1970’s.  She enjoyed gathering with her family and precious times with her grandchildren. She enjoyed a good BINGO game and “The Wonder of It All”, at Foxwoods. She was also a very social person and was ahead of her time as an “independent woman”.

Funeral Services are being held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Saint Anne’s Church, 120 Boston Turnpike Road, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
