WESTBOROUGH – Cars honked while driving through the Westborough Rotary on Saturday, voicing their support for residents rallying for LGBTQIA+ rights.

Coinciding with LGBTQIA+ Pride Month this month, the pride rally was organized by Pride Allies of Westborough.

“Visibility is just so important,” organizer Amy Glennon said.

Glennon, who is also a teacher, said that she’s done reading about the ways that the presence of support group for children in schools who identify as LGBTQIA+ — even if students don’t come to meetings or events — decreases suicide rates.

“Just knowing that there are people in their lives and in their communities that support them is really powerful stuff,” she said. “So that’s why we’re here.”

According to Glennon, Pride Allies of Westborough is mostly a parent group, though it does include some advocates and allies in the community.

The group was formed within the past year and seeks to provide support.

“A lot of parents come because maybe their kids have come out as trans and they’re looking for more information,” Glennon said. “[We’re] just helping parents connect with other parents who can help them out with that.”
