Daniel J. Leone Jr.Marlborough – Daniel (Butch) J. Leone Jr., 77, formerly of Marlborough, MA died Sunday August 6, 2023 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (Hayes) Leone who died in 2016.

He was born in Boston, the son of the late Daniel J. and Ada (Ross) Leone and was raised in Cochituate, MA. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1964. He enlisted in the United States Navy immediately after graduating and served during the Vietnam War, aboard the USS Mount McKinley as a weatherman. He was honorably discharged in 1967, as a Petty Officer 3rd Class.

Dan was a longtime member of Amvets Post 1980 in Marlborough. He worked for New England Telephone/Verizon for 27 years and retired in 1995 as a Lineman Supervisor. He was a founding Scoutmaster for Troop 31 in Marlborough, MA and spent many years supporting the Boy Scouts; retiring in 1992. Dan and his family enjoyed camping which led him and his wife to open Rent ‘N Roam RV in Shrewsbury, MA in 1992. They closed the dealership in 2006 to move to North Ft Myers, FL.

He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and most of all horseshoes. He won 13 horseshoe tournaments in a row at Mi-Te-Jo Campground (Yogi Bear Jellystone) where his family has been seasonal for 30 years. He was well known for the “Dan Dance”, often seen after a ringer.

He leaves his daughter Kim Wilkinson and her husband Tim of Stratham, NH; a son Keith Leone and his wife Meghan of Paxton, MA; four grandchildren, Alexandra Leone Brier, Cameron Marzio Brier, Zachary Sawyer Leone and Scarlett Ada Leone. While an only child, he leaves many cousins as well as friends that were like family.

A time of visitation will be held Friday September 8, 2023 from 3-4 PM in the Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. A memorial service will follow at 4 PM in the funeral home. There will be a celebration after the services in the Marlborough area, details will be shared at the memorial.
