Janet H. HansonSutton – Janet H. Hanson, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, after a brief illness. She was 80 years old. Born in Worcester on March 21, 1943, Janet was the daughter of Walter W. and Esther L. Hanson and lived the last 12 years in Sutton.

She is survived by her brother John W. Hanson, her three nieces, Elizabeth Byler (Dean), Deborah McMenamin (Patrick), Kristin Chapman (Robert), 12 great nieces and nephews, her dear friend Stephanie Boudreau, and her lovable dog Jenny. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Anne-Marie H. and William F. Kirkpatrick.

Janet graduated from North High School, Worcester. She started her career in data processing and was co-owner for many years of Shrewsbury Paint & Wallpaper with her brother John. She finished her career as a sales representative for Benjamin Moore, and then Sherwin Williams Paints in Jupiter, Florida, after which she returned to Massachusetts with John until her death.

Janet loved to travel. From Europe to the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, and most recently a cross country drive across the United States with her brother, she enjoyed seeing new things, taking in the beauty of the world, and meeting different people and cultures. She marveled at the beauty of nature and would often talk of how lucky she was to have seen so many wonderful places.

Janet’s passion, in addition to her friends and family, was golf. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Country Club, but was always excited to play new courses. She loved to collect golf balls from different courses to add to her ever-growing collection. She thoroughly enjoyed her golf league and the comradery of playing regularly, and competitively, with her good friends. She truly believed that the best place to be was on the golf course and the most rewarding part of golf was the friends she made along the way.

Janet lived by the motto “Life is Good”, which was evident in her always friendly, positive, and happy demeanor. She spent every day looking at the best in what life, and others, had to offer. She was a terrific listener, a wise offeror of advice, a faithful friend, a great aunt, and loving sister, who will truly be missed by all who met her.
