Miami, Fla./Vienna, Austria – Janet Bancroft Marchetti of Miami, FL and Vienna, Austria passed away on Friday, November 17th on the day of her 87th birthday, November 17th, 1936. She was the daughter of the late John Bancroft and Cecilia Anderson Stodart. She was preceded in death by her husband Pietro Valdo Marchetti.

Dr. Bancroft was born in Miami and spent her childhood in Cuba. She attended Principia School for HS and received her undergraduate degree from Principia College in Illinois. She went on to receive a master’s degree from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a Doctoral degree from The School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. She was a member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston.

She joined the Foreign Service and began her career in 1960 with the US Information Agency in Brazil. She went on to serve in Mexico, Spain and Austria as a career diplomat, wife and mother.  She retired from the United Nations Industrial Organization in Vienna in 1996.

In her retirement she traveled the world to over 60 countries in addition to becoming a Scholar in Residence at the School of Social Work at Barry University, Miami Shores, Florida.

She is survived by her children Laura Scott and her partner Jack Wagner of Southborough, MA and Cynthia Marchetti of Miami, FL and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, her stepchildren Maria Angelica Marchetti, of Mountain View, CA and Peter Anthony Marchetti of Driggs, ID, her grandchildren Jessica Scott of Charlestown, MA, Frederick Scott and his wife Lauren Flurer of New London, CT and step-granddaughter Maria Rosa Marchetti and her husband Joaquin Salas of La Quinta, CA.

Janet had a passion for adventure and exploring the world. Janet and her captivating story telling will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.
