WESTBOROUGH – The town has voted to acquire the property at 0 Bowman Street.

Article 20, sponsored by the Open Space Committee and the Conservation Department, sought $615,000 for the Ellis Walker property. Most of the funds – $507,000 – would come from Free Cash, with the remainder – $107,500 – coming from the Walkup Robinson Fund.

The Free Cash portion would be reimbursed with $307,500 from the state’s Land and Water Conservation Fund, and $200,000 from Sudbury Valley Trustees. The town has applied to the conservation fund; the newly approved funds will not be expended until if and when the town receives the grants.

Conservation Director Jennifer Miller said the 34-acre property – once an egg farm – would be used for passive recreation such as hiking. It would also provide water conservation and other environmental benefits.
