Berlin – Geraldo A. Sousa, 75, a former longtime resident of Hudson, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, with his loving family at his side, at Marlborough Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Filomena (Monteiro) Sousa of Berlin.

Born in St. Michael, the Azores in Portugal, son of Manuel and Alice (Aguiar) Sousa, he was raised in Santa Maria, the Azores and was proud of his early experiences in the whaling industry there as a young adult. He and his wife Filomena resided in Hudson from 1979 to 1999, where they raised their children until moving to Berlin in 1999.

Mr. Sousa was employed as a machinist for many years by the Doherty Tool Co. in Marlborough until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, playing his harmonica, and especially looked forward to his yearly trip back to his home in Santa Maria with his wife.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his seven children, Zulmira Sousa and her husband Rui of Lancaster, Jose Sousa and his wife Nelia of Berlin, Gualdino Sousa and his wife Kathy of Arizona, Ramiro Sousa and his fiance Lorenza Escareno, both of Texas, Pedro Sousa and his wife Tara of New Hampshire, Teresa Lando and her husband Salvatore of Sterling, and Linda Yost and her husband Theodore Yost III of Westminster. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and his brother and many sisters residing in the Fall River area, along with many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael's Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday, Feb. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA 01749.
