Shrewsbury Police, Good Samaritans avert tragedy on Lake QuinsigamondShrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Police Department released this statement this afternoon:

On Sunday, August 23, 2020 at approximately 6:00 PM, during a severe thunderstorm on Lake Quinsigamond, a disabled 2002 Four Winns boat with six persons aboard was being towed in the area of the Corazzini Boat Ramp in Shrewsbury. A woman then fell off the boat into the water and became distressed. Two men on the boat then attempted to rescue the woman by jumping into the water, however the men quickly became fatigued and distressed themselves. Nearby civilian boaters came to the aid of the trio, eventually pulling the unresponsive woman from the water onto the back of a pontoon boat. The Shrewsbury Police boat arrived on scene at this point and was flagged down by the good Samaritan boaters. Officers Peter Capalbo and Anthony Gabriele took over lifesaving measures and began CPR on the woman. The Officers were able to restore breathing and stabilize the victim. The female victim was brought ashore and transported to UMASS hospital, while the two male victims were also evaluated by paramedics. Officers Michael McGinnis, Kevin Warwick, Kyle Amato, John Rekemeyer, Dimos Georgiadis, Detective Timothy Finacom, K9 Officer Chad Chysna, and Sergeant Jason Palmatier all assisted with rescue efforts and the initial investigation into the incident. Investigation of the incident was later transferred to the Massachusetts Environmental Police.
