WESTBOROUGH – Two people were transported to area hospitals on Monday after a driver crashed into a Westborough police cruiser on Route 9, police say.
Around 12:25pm, a Westborough Officer was struck from behind while stopped at a red light near the intersection of Route 9 and Lyman St., according to a statement by the Westborough Police Department.
The cruiser then struck the vehicle that was stopped in front of it.
The officer was able to render aid to others involved in the crash.
The officer and the driver who first crashed into the cruiser were transported to hospitals with injuries, police said.
Their names had not yet been released as of Monday afternoon.
The rightmost lane of Route 9 Westbound was closed to oncoming traffic shortly after this incident.
