ARHS students to perform “Damn Yankees”

Northborough – On the heels of the Red Sox World Series Win, the Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) drama department is well into rehearsals for its upcoming production of "Damn Yankees." The musical comedy, which made its Broadway premiere in 1955, is based on the novel, "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant," by Douglas Wallop. The play features music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross.

Fifth Annual Chili Challenge benefits Appalachian Service Project

Westborough - On Jan. 19, members of the First United Methodist Church, teamed up with members of St. Luke's Parish to host the fifth Annual Appalachian Service Project (ASP) Chili Challenge. The fundraiser, which drew a crowd of more than 125, took place at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Proceeds from the evening, which topped $2,000, will help approximately 84 students (from both churches) participating in ASP this July.

Cancer prevention study to be conducted in central Massachusetts

Region – Preparation to enroll eligible residents of central Massachusetts as participants in the Cancer Prevention Study?3 (CPS-3) was discussed at a March 26 press conference at Worcester City Hall. Among the five sites hosting enrollment is the Boroughs Family Branch YMCA in Westborough, which serves nine communities including Hudson, Marlborough, Northborough, Shrewsbury, Southborough and Westborough. Non-members are welcomed to enroll in CPS-3. Enrollment will also be available at three locations in Worcester and one in Fitchburg.

Local business, nonprofit team up to help neighbors affected by breast cancer

Shrewsbury – Each year, Roger and Sue McCarthy donate to a selected charity on behalf of the business they own, McCarthy Landscaping and Irrigation, Inc. Long-time supporters of breast cancer aid organizations, the couple had personal reasons this year for wanting to find an organization that helps local people affected by the disease. Sue’s research turned up the Breast Friends Connection, which offers a monthly support group in Shrewsbury as well as other assistance. After learning details about what the group provides, the McCarthys wrote them a check for $2,000 to support the organization.
