Hudson ?The Hubert Kindergarten Center in Hudson has a special outlook on teaching. Teachers help students become responsible for their own learning and behavior in the classroom through a Character Education approach called "Responsive Classroom."

Marlborough - The “Boroughs Trail” conceptual plan to create a regional trail linking existing and over 30 miles of proposed trail systems in Marlborough, Northborough, Westborough and Southborough was accepted by the City Council at the May 4 meeting. Conservation Officer Priscilla Ryder reviewed the plans with members of the Open Space Committee and encouraged its acceptance.

Marlborough-The annual Memorial Day parade, honoring veterans, active duty military men and women and those who have given their lives in service to our country, will take place Monday, May 27, starting at 10 a.m. Participants will assemble on lower John Street, off Route 85, proceed to Main Street and stop at war memorials along the parade route, concluding at Monument Square at Mechanic Street.

Shrewsbury - For the second time in three years, residents are being asked whether to approve a multimillion dollar renovation and expansion of Shrewsbury Public Library. The Board of Selectmen approved during its Sept. 24 meeting a Town Meeting (TM) warrant and special election that would pave the way for the library improvements. Under a funding formula known as Chapter 149A, the renovation/expansion would cost a projected $26.46 million, maximum, with $16.75 million to be borrowed under debt exclusion. About $8 million would be paid through a state grant, and $1.75 million would be gotten through fund-raising.

Region - Turnover and transition are inherent in high school sports, and perhaps the one program feeling the tide turning the most this year is the Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School varsity volleyball team.

Hudson – The Hudson AMVEST Post 208 made special deliveries Christmas Day, Dec. 25, culminating its 26th season of Home Alone for the Holidays.

Grafton – Operation Friendship will hold dances for grades 5 to 8, Fridays, Feb. 5 and March 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Grafton Municipal Center, 30 Providence Road. The cost is $8 per child, and light refreshments will be for sale. There will be games, raffles and prizes, and other surprise activities. Operation Friendship is a nonprofit that encourages friendship and understanding via student exchange.

Hudson – Enthusiastic responses immediately followed a recent Facebook announcement for the new Hudson Farmers’ Market. It’s opening Tuesdays, beginning June 6, from 3 to 6 p.m., behind Town Hall at the Avidia Bank Financial Center parking lot (formerly the Citizens Bank lot).

Northborough - The Northborough 250th Anniversary 5K Race Committee is looking for more runners for the Saturday, May 21, event to meet its goal of 250 runners in honor of the town’s anniversary. So grab those sneakers and be part of celebrating the 250th milestone of Northborough's history.

Marlborough – It was like old times for The Allens when they presented a fans appreciation concert the evening before Labor Day at Union Common. The Marlborough-based rock band had performed during the holiday weekend many times and revived their tradition last year, noted guitarist and vocalist Billy Claire.

Shrewsbury – It’s all about the organization. Running like clockwork, buses transported over 300 effervescent young people from one end of Shrewsbury to Dean Park May 27 for the Class of 2016 Senior Picnic. Andrea Loiseau, mother of senior Jaclyn Loiseau, served as the coordinator and more than 20 parents worked to keep things moving smoothly the day of the picnic.

Region – Swimmers and divers from a dozen schools, including Algonquin Regional High School, Shrewsbury High School and Westborough High School, competed at the Midland-Wachusett League Swim and Dive Invitational Championship held at Tantasqua Regional High School Jan. 29.

Northborough – The Northborough Board of Selectmen (BOS) continued a discussion at its July 18 meeting regarding how the town’s police and fire departments report their day to day activities and performance.

Westborough – The Westborough community has come together for the past 26 years to show their support of their high school graduates with Project Graduation Westborough (PGW). The nonprofit organization will hold its annual alcohol-free, substance-free post-graduation party Saturday, June 3, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. at Teamworks in Northborough.

Westborough - The Westborough High School cafeteria was bustling with holiday energy on Dec. 17 as over 100 children and adults came together to celebrate the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Central Mass./Metrowest program's Christmas party.
