The Discovery of the Northborough mastodon

Northborough – On Monday, November 17, 1884, workmen digging a trench on the farm that belong to Northborough resident, William Maynard, near the Shrewsbury town line, discovered several teeth, bone fragments and portions of tusks. According to an account of the discovery published the following year by Franklin P. Rice of the Worcester Natural History Society (NHS), Maynard brought the specimens to his house, washed the teeth, and tested their hardness with a hammer, before handing them off for a more thorough examination.

A Westborough historian's story

Westborough - Glenn Parker is a former member of the Westborough Historical Commission and the author of "A Cornfield Meet - A history of the trolleys of Westborough." Westborough issues warning to state hospital trespassers

Westborough - The town wants would-be trespassers on the state hospital property to know they are not only risking arrest but personal harm if they break into the byzantine network of buildings and tunnels. Town Manager Jim Malloy told the Board of Selectmen at the board’s March 23 meeting that in recent weeks there has been a surge of unauthorized activity on the property. "It's pretty much a daily occurrence now over the past three weeks," he said.
