Fort Meadow Reservoir’s colorful history
Marlborough/Hudson – This fall the trees surrounding Fort Meadow Reservoir produced a fine array of bright foliage for members of the community to watch throughout the season. Although this body of water is a well noted location in the local region, its colorful history is not as familiar to everyone.
Hudson residents help steer car club toward its 59th anniversary
Hudson - Fred Hire and Jim Grillo, both Hudson residents, share a passion for hot rods, classic and custom cars, and are both members of the Push Rods of Waltham. While the club is now operated out of Hudson, it began on the front steps of Waltham High School in April of 1957.
Hudson High School students chosen to participate in District Music Festival
Hudson - Eleven Hudson High School musicians auditioned for the 59th annual Massachusetts Central District Senior Music Festival. Three (two vocalists, one instrumentalist) were selected to participate, one of whom also qualifies to audition for the 2016 Massachusetts All-State Music Festival.
Police Chief Burks considers Hudson his home
Hudson – Originally from Worcester, Chief Michael D. Burks Sr. became aware of Hudson long before joining its police department as the youngest full-time officer at age 20 in 1986. Since then he has developed three decades of experience working several positions in the department.
As a preteen playing football with the Worcester Vikings, he attended the Pop Warner jamboree when it was held annually in Hudson. Also, while in his teens playing basketball with the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church team in Worcester, he and his teammates bought Nike sneakers with the red Swoosh logo at Siger’s Sports, formerly on Main Street in Hudson.
Genealogist uncovers ancestors and a lifetime of joy
Hudson – Is it possible to move forward into the future while looking at the past? Doris (Parker) Blais Bonnell, a genealogist and genealogy instructor, thinks so. That’s what she’s been doing for nearly her whole life.
“If you don’t look back over your shoulder, there’s so much that’s buried back there,” she said.

Quinn Middle School continues tradition with mural
Hudson – The much-anticipated mural painted on what were five white panels of the David J. Quinn Middle School (QMS) building was officially unveiled Oct. 28 with a ceremony relocated inside due to rain. The tradition of murals began at the former John F. Kennedy (JFK) Middle School with then-art teacher Michael Correa, currently the district art coordinator.
Community leadership breakfast highlights philanthropy
Hudson - The Foundation for MetroWest, recently held a community leadership breakfast titled, “Business Leaders and Community Philanthropy: An Essential Partnership.” During the event, sponsored by Avidia Bank, a crowd of nearly 350 local business leaders heard from Stonyfield Farm Chair Gary Hirshberg about the role philanthropy played in his success.
Hudson’s Veterans Day parade cancelled due to weather
