Marlborough - Last year local officials were stunned by the news that that Fidelity Investments was planning on vacating their Marlborough campus by the end of 2012 and relocating 1,100 employees to Rhode Island or New Hampshire. Now, with the announcement that the TJX Companies, Inc., (TJX) has decided to purchase two of the soon to be vacant Fidelity buildings, officials are hopeful that the city will once again be moving forward.

City Council approves lease for Bigelow School

Marlborough – The City Council has approved a request from Mayor Arthur Vigeant to enter into a 25-year lease agreement with the Assabet Valley Collaborative (AVC) that will allow the organization to occupy the Bigelow School for the next 25 years. The decision was approved at the Nov. 5 council meeting, and follows an in-depth review by the council's Operations and Oversight Committee.

‘Boroughs Trail’ plan moves forward

Marlborough - The “Boroughs Trail” conceptual plan to create a regional trail linking existing and over 30 miles of proposed trail systems in Marlborough, Northborough, Westborough and Southborough was accepted by the City Council at the May 4 meeting. Conservation Officer Priscilla Ryder reviewed the plans with members of the Open Space Committee and encouraged its acceptance.

Marlborough - An order to create an assistant building commissioner position to replace one of the two local inspector positions within the Marlborough Building Department, was proposed to the City Council at its Feb. 22 meeting. Mayor Arthur Vigeant made the proposal in a communication at the request of Building Commissioner Robert F. Camacho, and his predecessor, Michael Mendoza, who both recommended restructuring the department to include the new position.
